Samantha D. Gonzalez, a graduate of Sterling College in Sterling, Ks. will be pioneering our initial season for the softball program at Huston-Tillotson University. With the start of this devour, the goal will be to instill an optimistic attitude, positive energy, and exceptional sportsmanship to all team members. Additionally, all softball players will be inspired by the program to exude respect, team work, and a ‘never give up’ mind set. In the 14+ years of experience, Samantha has embraced various roles from player graduating to coaching.
Originally from Webster, Texas; south of Houston, Samantha is a graduate from Barbers Hill High School. Receiving athletic honors both her junior and senior years, Samantha was awarded All District 1st Team 2B, Defensive MVP and All Area Pitcher in the Houston area. The Houston Chronicle recognized Samantha in 2003 as Defensive MVP and 2004 as one of the Top Pitchers in the Houston area.
While at Sterling College, Samantha was a varsity starter all four years as a pitcher, second, and first basemen. During this time, she received athletic honors; which included 1st Team All Conference KCAC Pitcher for her senior season. From 2006 through 2009, KCAC granted Samantha multiple honors in pitching and fielding positions. In addition, Samantha was Sterling’s JV Student Assistant her senior year. As a community advocate, Samantha supported Sterling and the neighboring areas by providing pitching lessons for girls from age 8 up to college level free of charge. Furthermore, the past 2 summers, Samantha experienced the game through the eyes of the umpire for both softball and baseball. Samantha has also stepped into functioning as a recruiter, attending the Easton Elite Showcases in Plano, Austin, and the Sparkler in Colorado.
As a Sterling College graduate, Samantha holds a Bachelors of Fine Arts and was on the Dean’s List fall 2004. She was an active member of several student groups, including Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Catholic Student Athletes.
Most recently, Samantha was fortunate enough to have the opportunity of a mission trip to China. She worked with less fortunate children in an orphanage; where she brought joy to children, teenagers and the elderly in a nursing home during her short stay.
