2007 Expectations: Ronnie Kaase is beginning his 5th year as the head volleyball coach at Huston-Tillotson University. Using the first four years to rebuild and restructure the volleyball program at HT, Coach Kaase is ready and excited about the 2007 season. With the addition of a junior varsity program for the 2007-2008 season, HT will be able to develop young student/athletes into the varsity program and have a good source of players to step up to the varsity in case of injuries.
For 2007 he will have a couple of seniors coming from the HT Women’s Basketball program to help round out the two returning seniors Kendriqua Spears and Dominique Green. Ashley Wright will bring some height and leadership in middle while Lauren Westerman will control the defense and passing. Adrienne Ringer will bring a lot of court experience and leadership from last years team which made it to the conference tournament for the third year in a row and lost in the first round against nationally ranked Houston Baptist University. Spears will finish her last year of eligibility and is one of the first recruits that Coach Kaase started with back in 2004.Tiffany Deba will bring quickness and solid hitting in the middle while Shamell Spivey can be exciting from the outside. As a volleyball coach at HT, Kaase works with the student/athletes to maintain high athletic goals along with academic accomplishments. “The most rewarding aspect of my job is watching dedicated student/athletes develop a well-earned sense of pride in their abilities both on and off the court. I believe in academics first, then athletics, because the experience of competition in the class room is just as exciting and rewarding on the court. Student/athletes find out that they become very successful once they leave HT with high academics and have the solid foundation of teamwork in belong with an athletic team”. The HT volleyball program will be looking to advance to the regional tournament this and have put together one of their toughest preseason schedules against eleven NCAA division I, II, and III schools to prepare them for the RRAC conference tournament.
