HT Athletics Announces New Programs for 07-08 Minimize

Women's soccer will be an intercollegiate sport at HT in 2007-08.  The team will be coached by Arick Lassiter, who will also continue to lead the men's program.  Lassiter was the Red River Athletic Conference 2006 Coach of the Year, leading the team to a record 13 victories, a RRAC Post-Season Tournament championship, and a trip to the Regional tournament.

The women's program will feature a 15 game schedule in 2007, including a full RRAC schedule.  All conference games will be played on the same playing dates as the men's games.  Athletic scholarships are available this first year, as the team expects to be very competitive right from the start.  "We have some momentum from the success of the men's team this past year, and the addition of the women's program just makes it all the more exciting for soccer at HT," said Lassiter.  "I have seen great enthusiasm already for the women's program and am confident that we can provide a super experience for female soccer student-athletes here at HT."

Interested students are encouraged to contact Coach Lassiter as soon as possible at adlassiter@htu.edu .

Also announced was the inception of junior varsity programs for the men's basketball and women's volleyball teams.  These programs have two main purposes:

1. To provide student-athletes a means to compete at the college level, when otherwise they may not have the opportunity to do so.

2. To provide each program with an internal feeder system for the varsity program.

It should be noted that participation in the junior varsity will count as one of the four seasons of competition allowed by the NAIA.  Also, there are no athletic scholarships available in these programs.

"I am very excited to be able to offer this opportunity to potential HT student-athletes," says volleyball coach Ronnie Kaase.  "This program strengthens my volleyball team in a variety of ways."

Head basketball coach Anthony Walker is similarly enthusiastic.  "The bottom line for me is that I have the opportunity to create more competition internally.  But I can also offer training and competitive opportunities to some players who I feel have potential, but for whom I may not have had a roster spot available in the past."

Interested parties are encouraged to contact each coach for more details.
