RAMS baseball ends season with a loss to #19 ranked Texas Wesleyan University Minimize

Brownsville, TX --- The HT Rams baseball team ended their season in a hard fought game against #19 nationally ranked Texas Wesleyan University 5-2. It was a pitchers duel the entire game for nine innings, which lasted one hour and forty-eight minutes. The game was very interesting since both schools have the Rams as their mascot.

Senior right-hander Travis O’Donnell (Austin, TX/Bowie HS) threw his sixth complete game of the season allowing 5 runs on 9 hits and striking out 5 Texas Wesleyan batters. O’Donnell led the HT Rams in innings pitched with 60.2 and finished second in strike outs with 50.

TWU scored first with a run in the bottom of the first inning and HT came back and tied it in the top of the third when Robert Pena (Austin, TX/Austin HS) led off the inning with a single to right field and was moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Ruben Rosales (Del Valle, TX/Del Valle HS). Pena moved to third base on a wild pitch and then scored when Tony Enos’s (Austin, TX/Bowie HS) ground ball was misplayed by the TWU third baseman.

TWU came back and scored a run in their half of the third inning and in the HT top of the fourth junior right fielder Jeremy Macklin (Austin, TX/Bowie HS) hit the second pitch of the inning for his sixth home run of the season, 386 feet over the left center field fence to tie the score at 2-2. Macklin’s home run broke the tie for most home runs on the team with Howard Limuel IV (Hutto, TX/Hutto HS).

TWU came back with a run in the seventh and two in the eighth before closing the game out with a win at 5-2.

Macklin and Pena both went 2 for 4 at the plate. Macklin hit .400 for for the tournament and leads the team with .399 batting average for the season.
