Former Ram center Jason McNeil has definitely made his mark in pro ball - in the Japan League, one notch under the JBL Superleague. Going into the league's final game, McNeil leads the league and his team, the Chiba Pierce Arrow Badgers, in scoring with 21.7 points per game and rebounding with 12.8 per game.
"The league has a lot of talented Japanese players, and they are mostly shooters. The type of guys that if they can see the rim, the shot will go in. So as a player, you have to be able to guard inside and out," said McNeil recently.
His team, which won the league championship last year, is located in Chiba City, an hour or so away from Tokyo. The website for the team is www.nextftp.com/kata/badgers/ and there is a link that says English in the top right corner to see stats in English.
McNeil joins another former Ram, Andre Pitts, in international professional basketball. Pitts, a 1997 graduate, has starred in several European Leagues and presently plays in Israel. Two more former Rams, Derek Bunton and Brandon Washington, are also preparing for international professional competition. More details will follow on their progress.
