Lady Wildcats gets past Huston-Tillotson
MARSHALL – The Lady Wildcats of Wiley College had five different players score in double-figures as they defeated Huston-Tillotson 81-76 on Monday.
Kevetta Williams (Waco/University) came off the bench to score 23 points for the Lady Rams, who fell to 8-4 in games against Red River Athletic Conference opponents.
Brittney Jones (Houston/Hightower) tallied 12 points, and was the only other Ram player to score in double-figures against Wiley College.
The Wildcats led 49-37 at halftime after shooting 62 percent (21-of-34) from the field during the first 20 minutes. The home team continued to have success shooting the ball in the second half, sinking 13-of-26 shots.
While the Lady Rams were able to cut into the Wiley College lead in the second half, their free-throw shooting hindered the comeback effort. As a team, HT sank only 11-of-19 free-throw attempts in the second half.
Shaneka Mason (Bryan/Blinn College), Ashley Bell (Beaumont/West Brook/North Platte CC) and Felicia Gaines (Rockdale/Rockdale) scored eight points apiece.
Deanira Monday (San Antonio/UT-Tyler) scored seven points and swiped five steals in the game.
The Rams host Texas Wesleyan at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mary E. Branch Gymnasium.
